Hi @SergeantBly,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've received a message on your HP Officejet 5740 stating that it appears you've installed a non-Instant Ink cartridge, despite only using HP Instant Ink cartridges previously, there could be a couple of reasons for this.

  • Miscommunication or Error: Sometimes, printers can encounter errors or misinterpretations, leading to false alerts. Try restarting your printer and see if the message persists.
  • Cartridge Issue: There might be an issue with the Instant Ink cartridge itself. Try removing the cartridge and reseating it firmly in its slot.
  • Software Glitch: Occasionally, software updates or glitches in the printer's firmware can cause such messages. Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date by checking the HP website for any available updates for your printer model.

Remember, HP Instant Ink cartridges are designed to work seamlessly with compatible printers, so if you're certain you've only used genuine Instant Ink cartridges, it's likely a technical issue that can be resolved with some troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Alden4

This was probably one of the worst answers I've ever read.  Just terrible all around
