HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I just set up my HP Smart Tank 7602 all in one printer. .  No matter what position I print in (landscape or portrait) on 4x6 photo paper it ALWAYS leaves a 1/4 inch white border on one side.  All the printer settings are for 4x6 and fit to page and after 20 different attempts it still does it.  Any suggestions before I return it.

Hi @Cat684,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with unexpected borders on your photo prints. Here are some troubleshooting steps you might consider before deciding to return the HP Smart Tank 7602:

Check Printer Preferences: Double-check the printer settings on your computer or device. Ensure that the paper size is correctly set to 4x6, and that you've selected "Borderless printing" if it's available. Sometimes, settings might revert or not save properly.

Printer Software and Driver Update: Verify that you have the latest printer drivers and software installed for your HP Smart Tank 7602. You can download the latest updates directly from the HP website. Updated drivers can often resolve unexpected issues like printing borders.

Align and Clean Printer Heads: Perform a maintenance routine from the printer's control panel or software. This often includes aligning the print heads and cleaning them, which can solve many print quality issues.

Check Application Settings: Ensure the application you're printing from (like a photo viewer or editing software) is also set to the correct paper size and borderless printing. Sometimes, the application overrides the printer settings.

Test with Different Software: Try printing the same photo using a different application or software. This can help determine if the issue is software-specific.

Paper Type and Quality: Make sure you are using the correct type and quality of photo paper recommended by HP. Sometimes, the printer might not handle lower-quality or incompatible papers well, affecting how ink is laid down and how margins are interpreted.

Consult the User Manual: Sometimes, specific models have particular settings or quirks. Reviewing the user manual or the support section on HP’s website might provide a solution specific to your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
