Hi @rob1956 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand It's frustrating when a new ink cartridge doesn't work in your HP OfficeJet 5255. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Double-check the cartridge compatibility with your HP OfficeJet 5255 model. You can find this information on the HP website, on the cartridge packaging, or printed on the cartridge itself.

2. Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the new cartridges are installed correctly. Turn off the printer and unplug it. Open the cartridge door and wait for the carriage to stop moving. Remove the old cartridges and replace them with the new ones, matching the colors with their slots. Gently press down until they snap into place. Close the cartridge door securely.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Sometimes, dirty cartridge contacts can prevent proper connection. With the printer off and unplugged, use a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges and the printer carriage. Let them dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

4. Reset the Printer:

  • Power cycling the printer can sometimes clear glitches. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord. Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.

5. Update Printer Driver:

  • Outdated drivers might cause compatibility issues. Visit the HP website and download the latest driver for your HP OfficeJet 5255 and Windows 11 system. Uninstall the old driver before installing the new one.

6. Clean the Printhead (Optional):

  • Clogged printheads can lead to printing problems. HP OfficeJet 5255 offers an automated printhead cleaning utility. Consult your printer manual or HP support for instructions on how to perform a printhead cleaning cycle.
