Hi, printer worked fine for a month or so, one day refused to print, brought up message in picture.
Disconnected power for a few minutes to reset, it then came up with “use setup cartridges that came with your printer”. I’ve removed & refitted them, tried different cartridges but no bueno. I’ve searched but haven’t found a definitive answer.

I suspect the setup cartridges may be empty, but should this matter? Getting more tired & frustrated by the minute. Any help appreciated!

Thanks J

Hi@Jumb0, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

As I understand, you're getting an error message while using set up cartridges in your printer.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you tried regular ink cartridges?

Step 1: Make sure the ink cartridges are compatible

Step 2: Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed

Step 3: Clean the electrical contacts

Step 4: Reset the printer

Step 5: Clean the ink cartridge contacts again

Keep me posted. Happy to help!

Hi Praveen, thanks for your reply.
I purchased the printer approx 6 weeks ago and it had worked well until the message in the photo came up one day. I reset the printer, then the message to use setup cartridges came up. At this point the setup cartridges were still fitted to the printer. I replaced with correct genuine HP cartridges and still had the same message. I have since swapped cartridges back and forth, reset etc etc but still the same message.

Hi@Jumb0,

Unplug all cables and memory cards from the printer.  Unplug the power cord, directly from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.

Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.

If there is a power module on the power cord, disconnect one end and reconnect it.

After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet ( not a surge protector or battery backup ).

Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.

The printer should automatically power back up.  If it doesn't, turn it on with the power button.

Try making a photocopy (if your printer is an all-in-one printer) before connecting any other cables to the printer.

Connect any other needed cables to the printer.

If this resolved your issue, no further troubleshooting is needed.  You can take additional steps if needed, but this is often a good first step.
