Whenever I open the front of my printer, the printheads still don't move to the center like they used to. This problem cropped up after the power went out during a storm some time before the message I posted to this board on January 18, 2023. That is why I can't change them. There was lightning at the time of the storm.

Hi @and2120,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-In-One printer might be experiencing issues related to the power outage and lightning strike you mentioned. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve the problem where the printheads are not moving to the center:
Reset the Printer:
- Disconnect the printer from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Reconnect the printer to power and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer’s internal state and resolve mechanical issues.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look at the printer's control panel or connected computer for any error messages. These messages can provide clues about what might be wrong.
Manual Movement Check:
- Gently try to slide the printhead manually (only if it moves freely without force). Do not apply much force; this is just to check if it's physically jammed.
Inspect for Visible Damage:
- Open the printer and inspect for any visible signs of damage or debris that might be obstructing the movement of the printhead.
Power Surge Damage:
- Since the issue appeared after a power outage and a lightning strike, there’s a possibility of power surge damage. Electrical surges can damage sensitive electronics in devices like printers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
