Hi @BetyYoli ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer is not recognizing the color cartridges and is displaying a message indicating they are damaged, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Verify Cartridge Installation: Make sure the color cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots. Sometimes, improper installation can lead to detection issues.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and carefully remove the color cartridges. Inspect the gold contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dipped in distilled water. Make sure they are dry before reinserting the cartridges.
  • Reset Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer's internal sensors and resolve detection issues.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download any available firmware updates. Follow the instructions to install the updates on your printer.Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Replace Cartridges: If the problem persists after trying the above steps, consider replacing the color cartridges with new ones. Sometimes, cartridges can indeed be defective or incompatible, even if they are new.
