HP Deskjet 3636
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. Some three years ago, I set up my 3636 printer and added a custom password for the Embedded Web Server (EWS). And then I lost it. I changed my PC since then, and now I'm trying to set up my printer on a new computer. But when I try, I'm told to write my EWS password to proceed, which I do not have, so I cannot set up my printer.

- Pressing Cancel and Wireless does nothing as far as I'm aware, I'm still asked for the password.

- The password is not 1234567 or Admin or blank or any default, I've tried them all (and it makes sense that it isn't, since I changed it myself back then).

- The password doesn't appear when I print any network status page of any kind.

So, my question is: how can I reset the EWS password and/or hard-reset my DeskJet 3636 printer? Thanks.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand you are getting an EWS password error. We need to perform a factory reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
