Every print instruction, I get a "paper jam" error. I simply approve the paper is cleared and re-run the same print instruction and it works fine...

Hi @XTOF1967,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be a sensor or a mechanical issue causing your printer to falsely detect a paper jam. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check for Jammed Paper: Even if you're not seeing any paper jammed, check all areas of the printer including the input and output trays, as well as the ink cartridge access area, for any small pieces of paper that might be causing the sensor to trigger.
  • Clean the Rollers: Paper jams can sometimes be caused by dirty or worn-out rollers. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the rollers. Be sure to unplug the printer before doing this.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a simple reset can fix the issue.
  • Check Paper Quality: Make sure you're using the correct type and size of paper for your printer. Low-quality or improperly sized paper can sometimes cause paper jams.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Similarly, ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.
  • Inspect Paper Path Sensors: There might be a sensor along the paper path that's malfunctioning. Gently inspect these sensors to ensure they are not obstructed or damaged.

By systematically going through these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue causing the false paper jam errors with your HP ENVY 5540 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
