HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer

HP Officejet Pro 9015 failed at beginning of print job with "Carriage Jam.  The print carriage cannot move. ..."

Printer is only 20 months old and very lightly used.  Recently, like a day or 2 ago, it displayed that it had auto-updated, we assume it meant firmware.

Have had ALL doors and access panel open.  There are no paper obstructions at either end of the carriage path or anywhere else in the paper tray or duplexer.

Carriage is firmly positioned at the far right, and will only wiggle about a 16th of an inch when I try to slide it manually.  It feels like it's "latched" or meshed onto some non-moving sprocket or gear.

I've tried all the following online "solutions":

Open all doors and clear all obstructions:  there are none.

Tried powering off, wait 30-seconds, then powering on (ie, sales dept resest): no change.

Tried pulling the power cord out of printer, waiting 2 minutes, plugging back in:  no change.

This is a backup printer, lightly used, but it has about $150 of ink cartridges installed in the "stuck" carriage, and those are now inaccessible in the right front corner of the printer.

What's next to try??  We are both ex-HP employees from 1983-2000, so you can talk techie to us if you want!
