Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

I've changed the size specification in Word in layout/size and on the print menu.  I've also changed the paper size in Printer Properties (I'm using a 5.5 x 8.5" sheet).  Every time I attempt printing I get a "paper mismatch" error and it will not print.  

 

After the print fails, I can go back into Printer Properties and the size has reverted to 8 1/2 x 11"

Have you set the page size on the printer itself. Sorry, not clear from your post if you did. When you load the paper you must set it to the size loaded.

Yes, I've set the page size on the printer itself.  The printer actually gives me a prompt and all I have to do is confirm the paper size.
