when I try printing, I see printing screen coming up indicating supplies are low and page will print in black . Nothing prints after that. Black ink is low but still good quality when I print test reports.

Hi @OAhome,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with printing issues, especially when the printer indicates it can still print in black despite low ink levels. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully get your printer working again:

Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Health:

  • Even though the printer indicates that there's enough ink to print in black, sometimes the ink cartridge could be malfunctioning or not properly recognized. Replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one might resolve the issue if the cartridge is nearing its end of life or is defective.

Ensure Cartridge Installation:

  • Double-check that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove the black ink cartridge and reinsert it to make sure it’s correctly positioned and secured in place.

Print a Test Page/Report Directly from the Printer:

  • Use the printer's control panel to print a diagnostic test page or a quality report. This can help verify if the issue is software-related (from the computer) or hardware-related (with the printer itself).

Check the Printer Settings:

  • On your computer, open the printer settings (usually found in the 'Devices and Printers' section in the control panel for Windows or 'Printers & Scanners' in system preferences for Mac).
  • Ensure that the printer is set to use black ink only, especially if it's indicating that color supplies are low. This setting can typically be found in the printer properties under 'Preferences' or 'Printing Preferences'.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Clear any existing print jobs that might be stuck. Go to the printer queue, cancel all documents, and try printing again.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Restart both the printer and the computer. This can help clear any error states or communication issues between the devices.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Check for updates to your printer drivers. Visit the manufacturer's website, find your printer model, and download the latest drivers available for your operating system.

Check for Error Messages or Warnings:

  • Look for any additional error messages or warnings that might be displayed on the printer or within the printer software on your computer. Addressing these specific errors can often resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
