HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color Printer M551dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having issues with my HP Laserject M551. It seems to have trouble printing in black and everything prints washed out. I have attached a photo of an image I tried to print. I have tried a full calibration and cleaning page. I have also swapped out the black ink cartridge. Both the old black cartridge and the new one said the black ink is full and the printer does not having error messages. The paper is listed on the printer and the computer as being plain white paper.

Looks like a failure of the black cartridge slot. On the back of the printer there is a small hole which contains the engine test button. Use a small non-conductive item to depress the switch. This will print a engine test of horizontal lines, alternating in each color. You can also use the control panel to print the Print Quality Test pages. If there is no black on those pages you will need to check all the contacts inside the cartridge cavity. Compare what you see to what is present in the black cartridge slot to one of the colours. They all have the same number of contacts.

Two things you can check

This picture shows the lever, circled in red, that opens the laser shutter when you close the door. If it is missing or broken no image is formed. Compare to the other ones not circled.

There is also a tiny grounding  spring, circled below at the top of the cartridge cavity, that can get broken and this stops an image from being printed.
