My printer will no longer print black.  I have tried two different new cartridges.

Hi @AnnaW,

A warm welcome to HP Community!

Please ensure the printer is up-to-date with its firmware. If you are unsure, you can download and install the latest firmware update from here.

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the ink cartridges, refer to solution 4 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) From the printer control panel, touch the Setup icon ().

9) Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Printhead. The printer cleans the printhead and then prints a test page. Touch Proceed and then, when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for each cycle of cleaning.

Note: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require several cleaning cycle to restore print quality.

Let me know how it goes!

I have run the printer through several cleaning cycles and so far it is not printing back.  I ran a printer status report and it shows no black cartridge.  There is no proceed button as indicated in your answer so not sure what that is.  Any further thoughts?

Since those steps failed to resolve the issue, it's possible that its a printhead failure and the printer needs to be serviced/replaced. Please contact your regional HP Support to obtain all available service/replacement options. You may reach them from here
