Hi @Jimhh76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If certain features on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer have been locked, it's possible that the administrator or person who set up the printer has enabled some security settings. To unlock or reset the printer, you can try the following steps.

Access the Printer Menu:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the home screen.
  • Look for the setup or wrench icon.

Reset to Factory Defaults:

  • In the printer menu, find the option for "Restore Defaults" or "Reset Factory Settings."
  • Confirm the action to reset the printer to its default settings.

Default Password:

  • Some printers may have a default password for administrator access. Check the printer's manual or documentation for any default passwords and use them if applicable.

Web Interface:

  • Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address. You can find the IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer.
  • Log in to the printer's web interface using the administrator credentials. This information is usually found in the printer manual.
  • Look for security settings or configuration options to unlock or reset features.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware might resolve certain issues and unlock features.

Remember that resetting the printer to factory defaults will erase all customized settings, so make sure to note down any specific configurations you might need later.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
