officejet 4215xi all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My officejet 4215xi all-in-one has decided to stop scanning correctly.  As I feed my originals into the automatic document feeder (like I have done for years), it no longer pulls the documents at the correct pace resulting in the scanned image being smeared or having about 2 - 3 inches of white space on the leading edge. As I listen to the officejet, it sounds like it starts the scanning, but the paper doesn't get pulled forward for a few seconds (hence the white space and text image smearing). Yesterday I was able to scan one page at a time somewhat successfully but today I can't even do that and I am now getting an error message that the scan wasn't successful. I hope someone can provide me with the steps to get this corrected.  Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums. Can you try the following:

Please Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR) tool to diagnose and fix your problem

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e016-1&h_keyword=dg-PDU

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much greenturtle! Unfortunately, while the Scan Doctor recognizes my printer and starts to communicate with it, a little less than half way through the process it stops working and crashes. The only way to cancel it after that is to force it closed via the Task Manager. I let it sit for a VERY long time the first time and then finally gave up. The other few times I didn't bother to let it sit as it was clear it wasn't working.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Wonder if you are able to reinstall the Software from the CD that came with the printer?

We would suggest to uninstall and reinstall.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much! I uninstalled my printer and re-installed it. I no longer have my original disks but downloaded the driver software off the internet. That said, it still isn't scanning properly... Now I get an error message that "A problem prevented the document from being scanned. " Oy!!!

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Can you try this alternative scan solution :

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.

Thank you so much!

I downloaded the alternative and scanned a three-page document. Pages one and three were beautiful but page 2 is still not scanning smoothly so that it looks like it's being pulled.

I think I just need to scan one page at a time and that is the best I am going to get.

Thanks for all your suggestions and help. This new alternative scan program is definitely better than the old one so at least I got an upgrade. 🙂

Have a great day!

Jen
