OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone:

I have a OMEN Obelisk Desktop PC - 875-0014 and I am interested in upgrading the GPU. I currently have a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060 3GB.

I'm really looking into getting a RTX 4060 like this one here. However, I'm not sure if my motherboard (a HP 84FD) is compatible. I have a 500W power supply. Lastly, should I buy a new 8-pin to plug into the new GPU? It looks like the GTX 1060 I use currently is using a 6 pin but has 2 extra pins hanging off the side that I might be able to use to satisfy the 8 pin on the RTX 4060?

Thank you.

System Specs:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
RAM: 32GB
PSU: 500W
Motherboard: HP 84FD

@Benson18 , welcome to the Community.

My first concern with upgrading to a RTX 4060 is the PCIe slot on the motherboard.  The 4060 is a PCIe 4.0.  The slot on the motherboard is "One PCIe x16 socket (for discrete graphic card)".  At best it may be a 3.0, but I believe it is less.  Therefore, you wouldn't get the full benefit of the 4060.  You would most likely get as good or better performance with a RTX 2080.  I have a RTX 2080 in my custom computer that I built 3 years ago.  It runs every game that I have played at full settings and with great ease.  I am playing Sniper Elite 5 at the moment.  This is only my opinion, however.  The choice is yours.

You would most likely have to upgrade your PSU, also.  I recommend a fully modular PSU with a 6-pin and 8-pin supplemental power connector.  This will allow to buy a video card of your choice.

Here is a HP Knowledge Base article that will explain what to consider when adding or upgrading a video card.
