A good video card can be a must when gaming. It is an easy upgrade for someone without much technology background. However, there are some things that you have to consider when choosing a card.
The first thing to consider is the BIOS/UEFI in the motherboard. Most newer video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS. You can find this information in the "System Information" app, in the BIOS Mode section, on your computer. The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI. There are three other important things to consider: 1) the length of the card; 2) the wattage required to run the card properly and 3) does the power supply unit (PSU) have any necessary 1x6-pin, 1x8-pin or both supplementary power connectors. If not, this will require a PSU upgrade.
You can determine if the card will fit by measuring the space where it will be installed from the Back I/O ports to the front of the case. There should be enough space to allow for good airflow. The airflow is extremely important because these newer high-power cards develop a lot of heat. HEAT is your enemy in a computer. The wattage required is very important, also. It is normally recommended that the PSU has 100W to 150W more than the card requires. This allows for extra power for peak needs and for other future upgrades.
Once these requirements are met you can choose the manufacturer that you like and find a card that will meet your needs. A good resource for assuring that you choose the best card for your system is the manufacturer's Tech Support. They are the experts on their products. I have always found them to be very helpful.
There are numerous videos online to help you with the actual installation.

@yuanyasmine, this sounds like a good plan! When you buy a high-end video card it should be good for at least that long.

You are welcome, @BTVN! Thank you for the additional information.
I believe that you can use an external video adapter successfully. Here is a page from StarTech's website: https://www.startech.com/AV/display-and-video-adapters/
I normally recommend their products because their Tech Support is very helpful and they have excellent products. I use their Chat Live option when possible. It gets me my answers very quickly. You can contact them to assure that you get the best adapter for your system. They won't try to sell you something that won't work.

@MarwanAdel2019, no, you can't upgrade your video card, but you may be able to use an external USB 2.0 video adapter. I suggest that you find a local source for them and talk to their Tech Support to assure that it will work. You can look at this page on StarTech's website to see what is available: https://www.startech.com/usb-2-video-adapters
They may even sell StarTech's products in your country.

Hey old_geekster . I have a HP Pavilion x360 convertible 14m-baOxx or Product # 1KT48UA#ABA. It has the Intel HD Graphics 620 card in it. Is there anyway to upgrade that? I've seen Intel say their are updates but they say I need to go through HP. Is there anything I can do? Thanks for your help. BR24

@BR24, unfortunately, the HD Graphics 620 is integrated into the processor. There is no way to upgrade the processor or add dedicated graphics. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the laptop: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06172090
Look at the section titled "Component replacement procedures" for a list of components that can be replaced.

@Soupy05, unfortunately, you are very limited with choices for a video card. All of the newer cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS: https://www.howtogeek.com/175649/what-you-need-to-know-about-using-uefi-instead-of-the-bios/
HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012. Your computer was released 20-May-2011. The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI. In fact, HP no longer makes software and driver updates available for your computer. The last series of cards not to require UEFI were the GTX 660/670's. If you can find one of them, you will most likely have to upgrade the power supply unit (PSU), also. It is only 250W.

@david296, unfortunately, I don't believe that you can upgrade your laptop at all; with possibly one exception, the hard drive (HDD) to a SSD. I can't say for certain, however. HP doesn't provide any upgrade information in their manuals section: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-15-cs3000-laptop-pc-series/29133460/model/31594537/...
This means that they don't expect, even Authorized Service Providers, to do upgrades. I wish that I had better news for you. It is difficult to upgrade laptops for two main reasons: 1) the size of the case. It doesn't allow for good airflow and 2) the AC power adapter (65W) in your laptop, doesn't provide enough power.

Old Geekster,
Thanks for that info. It seems when some new game comes out, an implied requirement is to purchase a new Super Computer, or upgrade your old boat anchor with a bunch of gadgets. I bought the latter, but it was supposed to be an upgraded, gaming capable unit with tons of hard drive space, RAM, High Grade Video Graphics Card and processor speed. The old game disks I loaded popped right onto the unit, and they play fine. However, the X-Plane 10 Disk Set was an absolute nightmare, and I never did get the program loaded. The sole problem I have now is with MS Flight Simulator X. That problem is a stretched cockpit instrument display that depicts oval-shaped flight instruments. Another expert helped with some graphics adjustment suggestions, but the 'cure' was to narrow the display, with wide, blacked out portions along the edges. Anyway, I'll keep plugging, albeit with oval instruments. Again, thanks for your help.

@Daveyl123, I haven't even tried to install my MS Flt Sim X in Win 10. I guess I will have to give it a try to see what happens. I don't have the Yoke or pedals that I once had, but I can operate it with the mouse and keyboard. I suggest that you contact MS Tech Support to see if they can help solve your problem. Since both the game and OS are MS, they may have a cure. Hopefully, the cure is not as bad as the disease. 😉

@Wakwe1002, I believe that your problem is caused by the fact that the video card is not compatible with the motherboard. The information that I could find on your computer states that it was released in 2011. The GT 710 requires UEFI in the motherboard and not a Legacy BIOS:
https://www.howtogeek.com/175649/what-you-need-to-know-about-using-uefi-instead-of-the-bios/
HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012. I suggest that you check with the card manufacturer's Tech Support to see if they have a solution for you. It may be that there is a Firmware update for the card that will solve your problem.

Anyway, thanks for your help. I really appreciate your support.

Hello all,
I wanted to upgrade the video card on my son's computer - OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014. I bought "XFX AMD Radeon™ RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 RAW II". However, after installing and connecting it, the video card is not giving any signal to the monitor. My initial assumption is that PSU is not powerful enough, so I'm looking to upgrade it.
I'm looking at "Thermaltake - SMART 700W ATX 80 Plus Power Supply". Can this PSU fit the case of OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0014?
I appreciate your help.

@Hod82, welcome to the forum.
Sorry for the late reply, but I didn't get a notification when you made your post. You are limited to which video cards you can install because of your 310W power supply unit (PSU). The motherboard has a proprietary 4-pin power connector; not the standard 24-pin ATX power connector. Here is a Power Supply Cross-Reference Guide to help you choose a new PSU: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model...
All of the PSU's in the Guide in the 690 series will work with your motherboard. This means that the most powerful will be 500W (L5757-800). It has a PCIe 6+2 power connector. If you decide to upgrade the PSU, I will recommend a new video card.

, you cannot upgrade your video card, however you'll be capable of use an external USB 2.Zero video adapter guide here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model.... I recommend that you discover a neighborhood source for them and speak to their Tech Support to assure that it will work.

@rapaya , welcome to the forum.
Your assumption is absolutely correct! The PSU in your son's computer is 500W. Here are the specifications for the card: https://www.xfxforce.com/gpus/radeon-tm-rx-5700-xt-8gb-gddr6-raw-ii-ultra
As you will see, the minimum wattage is 600W and the card requires a 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin PCIe power connector. Personally, I recommend at least a 700W PSU. I normally recommend a PSU with at least 100W to 150W more than the cards manufacturer states. The best way to know if the PSU will fit into the case is measure the current PSU and compare those measurements to the one that you choose.
