The following software updates were suggested. Try these out and let me know what results you get 🙂
@ja___ HP Software Framework version 4.6.10.1
HP Quick Launch Software version 2.70
@mas2112 HP Software Framework version 4.6.10.1
There was not a Quick Launch software version listed for Windows 8, but if the Software Framework doesn't do the trick you could try the Quick Launch Software for Windows 7.
@oxsolid HP Software Framework version 4.6.10.1
HP Quick Launch Software version 2.70

I installed both the HP Software Framework and the Quick Launch Software, and it worked after a reboot (It didn't work without a reboot)! And the setting even sticks after reboot. Thanks a bunch!

Model: HP Envy 17 3200
Version: Windows 8 Pro
IDT Version: 6.10.6381.0
BIOS: F.08
Everything worked when I had windows 7
I was also wondering if there was a Windows 8 version of the Quick Launch Software?
Thanks

@NathanKarolz mas2112 also has a 3200 series with Windows 8 Pro. There isn't a QuickLaunch software version listed for the 3200s for Windows 8, unfortunately (see my earlier post from 5/31). I suggest using the
Windows 7 QuickLaunch software and the
HP Software Framework version 4.6.10.1.
Restart after installing those two.
Regarding the brightness issue, that may be resolved with the QuickLaunch software. If not, you could also download the My Display Utility software (It may say that the monitor isn't compatible with that software. If so, disregard that suggestion). That version is for Windows 7 also, but may work with Windows 8. As a third option, from the Desktop view of Windows 8, right-click on the desktop and go to Graphics Properties. You'll find Brightness options there too. Let me know what questions or issues you run into there 🙂

The quick launch software didn't help it and it did say that the display software wasn't compatible. It doesn't say Graphics Properties but it has Catalyst Control Center, I adjusted brightness in there but it also didn't do anything.
When ever I start my laptop it is like it is on the lowest brightness possible even though it says its on full brightness on the slider in the windows 8 settings. The buttons do nothing and the only way to change my brightness is to set it to what ever level I want and restart it, then after the restart it will be what I set it too.
Sorry if this is going a bit sidetracked from the Audio wheel problem but its really bugging me and I haven't been able to find any help or solutions for it 😕
Thanks

@NathanKarolz Download and install the latest BIOS version for your model
Your computer will restart during the installation. Allow it to restart and get back to the Start screen. Set your brightness and run it through a few shutdown and restart cycles to test it. Let me know what results you get from that 🙂
