Found out what the issue is with the volume rocker. I downgraded the BIOS version to F.09 08-2012 and now its all working properly.
As i understand the latest versions ar modified for Windows 8 and I guess HP missed something out.

I updated my BIOS to the latest version available from 2013-01-25, and the volume control does not work still. So it looks like this is a BIOS bug, which is not fixed in the latest version. Is there a way to get HP to fix this?

Hello all,
I'm sorry that you're experiencing this issue with the Beats button. I would like to gather some information from you to see if I can research and come up with a resolution. I would like to know the following:
1. What is your full model name/product number? [How do I find my product number?]
2. What version of Windows do you have currently? 7 or 8? Home or Pro?
3. IDT HD Audio driver version? (found in Device Manager > Sound > IDT Audio Properties > Driver tab)
4. Current BIOS driver version?
5. If a previous BIOS version did not exhibit the problem, which version was that?
I know not everyone will be able to answer #5. That's ok, just answer as much as you can because the more information I have, the better I can help. If you have any other information that you can think of that may help, feel free to offer that as well! I'll keep an eye out for your replies
I encourage anyone following the thread, if you have this issue too, please respond with the above information. Thanks!

Thank you all SO much for the prompt and thorough responses! 🙂 I've gathered the information and I'd like to start with verifying that F.09 works for everyone. If it is as simple as that, I'll pass that along to the proper department.
@cmihov Do you experience any issues with any other aspect of the notebook when you are on F.09?
@mas2112 Your notebook is probably a CTO (configured to order/customized) I'll need your product number in order to provide you with links to the proper driver, please. If you already know how to get to the driver page though, install F.09, if you don't mind, and see what results you get from that. You can press the FN + ESC keys to get your product number.
@ja___ You can press the FN + ESC keys to check your current BIOS version. Could you check to see if you are at F.09 (which is the latest for your particular model) please.
Let me know if anyone has questions. Thanks again! 🙂
