So I too have the same issue.  On my second printer and still the annoying sound.  I called HP and talked to the Case Manager assigned and they told me this is NOT a known problem so there is nothing they can do.  I can't understand if this is on a HP Forum Discussion Board how it can not be known that there is a problem.  Needless to say, after much convincing, HP is sending me a replacement module.  Hopefully this resolves the issue.

Hi @skiman11

Thanks for that feedback. Can I please ask which country you're in? I can then circle back with the callcentres.

Cheers

Ciara

I did receive my "new" power supply.  I replaced the unit and the "humming" noise did disappear.   Time will tell if there is any degradation in the new power supply; but for now, my problem seems to have been resolved.

Exactly same issue, here in Hong Komg.  For the 7640 I have, how to change the power unit?  Thanks.

It has been 2 weeks since I replaced the power supply and still no noise!  so far this seems to be the fix.

I have the identical noise problem with the HP ENVY 7640 that has been delineated in this string. I called HP Support for a replacement power supply and I have been bounced around to three different people and have currently been on the phone for 26 minutes.

HP Support is sending me a new printer.  Good solution.

I bought my printer 3 days ago, and there has been a high-pitched electronic noise coming from the power supply at the back of the printer since that time.  It makes the same noise even when the printer is in sleep mode.  The power cable is firmly plugged in at the back of the printer, but the part that it is plugged into on the printer seems to be loose; it moves slightly from side to side (approx. 1 or 2 mm) when I push it.

I see from the postings that HP has sent a new power supply to customers, and in some cases this has resolved the problem.  Can HP send me a new cable directly, or do I need to go through the reseller where I bought it in Switzerland?
