HP Office Jet Pro 8740
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Printer works; however, the carriage moves around for a solid two minutes before the actual page copies or prints.  There is a lot going on unnecessarily within the printer.  Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

Hi @LThomps

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Please try these steps -

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue still persists, please try these steps - HP Printers - Slow Printing (Windows)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

OK, I tried ejecting the printer cartridges and then disconnecting the power source from the printer and then the surge protector.  I then plugged everything back in and re-inserted the ink cartridges.  It is still going through unnecessary processes to print and takes an extended period of time to print.  I checked for updates and firmware and it is current.  The last thing would be uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it.  That one is my last resort.

Thank you for your help.
