HP Officejet 4630 Printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

When I send a document to the printer; it shows in the print queue, but will not print.  When I reboot my computer, the document will proceed to print.

The same thing happens each time I send a document to the printer.  I have a wireless connection from my laptop to the printer.  The blue icon on the printer is lit up showing as connected.

Why is it only working when the computer is rebooted?  I have run the HP Support Assistant and it cannot find the printer; although the printer seems to find the computer once I've rebooted the computer.

It's annoying to say the least and I am not very technically minded.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Maggie78

Thanks for your patience.

Can you try the following :

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Hope that helps!

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums. Can you try the following:

Please Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR) tool to diagnose and fix your problem

For a more permanent solution, we'd recommend using a Static IP address.

The following resource would help :

Creating a Static IP address using EWS

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried once again with the HP Printer Assistant & chose the tool HP Print & Scan Doctor.  I thought perhaps I had an older version; but your link was the same version 4.9 that is on my computer, although I ran it from the link you provided.

The printer prints off the HP website but still only prints a document when I reboot the computer.  The message the computer gives is that the printer is offline but of course it isn't.

I followed the tutorial on making a static IP address and it confirmed the test and when I checked my printer it did show the new static IP address.

However, it still won't print documents without the rebooting of my computer.

If you have any more ideas, please let me know.  I appreciate your time and assistance.
