Designjet 500

Designjet 500
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Can anyone tell me how to get my Designjet 500 to print true black in my photos?  I have tried everything I can think of.  I did find a true black setting once (I have not been able to find it again) and have tried every paper type setting but I get

1/4 inch light/dark banding on all paper types except HP Matte Photo Paper which has a green tent from mixing colors to make black.  When I run the diag print on the photo paper, the black prints perfect.

What program are you printing from? You probably need to use an icc color that matches the printer. I print from PaintShop Pro, using different icc files according to the paper, and have no problems with black or any other color.

Also, the newest firmware, A.04.02, for the 500 has an "enhanced color" mode. You pick it from bottom of the paper type list on the printer panel, which opens a sub-menu for enhanced colors. If that menu is not there, you need to update to the latest firmware and driver on the HP website. Look for it under the Windows XP section of the downloads page; just pick the right bit type for your operating system--32 or 64 bit.
