Speakers play with Headphones plugged in

Envy Recline Touchsmart
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently my PC has started playing audio through both my headphones and speakers while the headphones are plugged in.  I am trying to get it back to the point where it plays just through headphones while they are connected.

Speakers play with Headphones plugged in

Hi! @datsmybikepunk, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand audio is playing both on speaker and headphones on your PC.

Go to control panel > sound > selected 'speaker/HP' > click properties > advanced > untick 'exclusive mode'.

1. Make sure your headphones are plugged into the headphone jack
2. Go to your control panel
3. Click Sound
4. Click on the Playback tab (should be default tab)
5. Click on the item Speakers / Headphones
6. In the drop down menu click on Set as Default
7. This should remove the little phone icon from the headphones and your headphones should now work "

Also, try the steps mentioned below.

Go to windows desktop
Hold Windows key + Letter R key.
Run dialog box would open type devmgmt.msc
Device manager window will open.
Expand audio inputs.
Right click the audio driver and select properties.
Go to driver tab and select update driver.
Select browse my computer for driver software.
Select next and follow the instructions and click finish.

If the above steps do not work please update the audio drivers.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day! :)

Speakers play with Headphones plugged in

The exclusive mod option was already unticked.  The first set of steps did not change anything.  Also step 7 you say "your headphones should now work"  it is important to note the headphones have always "worked" the issue is they no longer prevent playback on the speakers built into the PC.

As far as updating the driver is concerned I do not know what to update to.  If I select search my computer for drivers I need to already have the drivers I wish to upgrade to and know where they are stored.  If I let windows automatically upodate it determines I already have the best drivers.

How do I find where the apprpriate drivers are for my hardware and the correct versions for windows 10?

Hi! @datsmybikepunk, thanks for the response.

As you mentioned the steps I provided did not work.

Please provide the serial number and product number of your PC in a private message.

So I can get you the updated drivers for your PC.

I will watch for your reply!

Good day! :)

Speakers play with Headphones plugged in

Hi! @datsmybikepunk, thanks for the response.

Thanks for the information. Please update the audio driver and BIOS using the links below.

Audio driver link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64501-65000/sp64642.exe

BIOS update link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66821.exe

Audio drivers are available only Windows 8.1 for your PC. However, you try installing the driver and check if this helps.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers! :)

The audio drivers can not be installed on windows 10.  I am given an error that I do not meet operating system requirements when I attempt to install and the BIOS update did not make a difference.

Hi! @datsmybikepunk, thanks for the response.

Please right click on the .exe file go to properties and select compatibility mode and select windows 10 from the list.

If the above steps do not work update the driver from the link below. Make sure you uninstall all the components of IDT drivers before installing the driver.

Keep me updated! :)

When I attempt to install sp64642 I get the incorrect operating system message and sp71886 did not install correctly for me either.  Since I uninstalled everything with the audio drivers I have no sound at the moment.

Hi! @datsmybikepunk, thanks for the response.

Device Manager, right-click (or tap and hold) your audio driver > Update driver software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select High Definition Audio Device to expect for Realtek driver , select Next and click ok.

Also, refer the windows 10 audio troubleshooting document using the link below.
