I have had the same problem, it seems to lock uop and crash and no matter how many times or for how long i hold down the power button it refuses to turn on andor boot..
Only thing that fixes it is run the battery down totaly, it seems in my case it is on but not fully, so I can power USB devices, so I can drain the battery, then plug the power cable in when fully drained it will work when I use the power button.
I think the Hp Envy x2 is defective in some way hardware wise, no software fix has fixed it yet.

I concider Mine fixed at the moment, been about a month without trouble, well not the old problems.
I had to do a full factory reset and then do the latest bios update and chipset update, update all the drivers to the newest, and it has no done it since, as far as I can tell it is fixed.
I have set the PC to hibernate now like I wanted it to, none of that crap sleep, want it to shut down completly, but still startup nice and fast, want to save power that's why I use Hibernate.
Just do what I did and see if that helps, now all they have to do is fix the sound and it would be a 10/10 product, with the sound, I give it 0 out of 10, the sound is HORRIFIC on this thing, have to use external speakers if I want to listen to my Audio Podcasts or genraly most things involving sound, just PATHETIC SOUND.

I've also had this problem with my HP Envy x2. Seems that if I shutdown with the AC power unattached, I can't immediately power on, no matter how hard or long I push the power button. The solution of waiting a minute then pushing the button for a second or so seems to do the trick. Initially I thought I had fixed it by plugging in to the AC power but in hindsight by the time I fiddled around with the plug & cord a minute had probably passed.
One strange thing that happened after re-starting after this problem (only once) was my display went slightly out of focus/phase. I rebooted and all was fine. Hasn't happened since...

I am having the same issue with a brand new Envy X2 11-g010nr
I had set the unit to "shut down" on lid close. Next morning battery was 0% (dead). So it appears it failed to shut down on lid close. From that point I always expicitly shut down each time since recharging.
Several times now I found I cannot turn it back on. Using full 3 seconds push. Undock and redock worked once. Plugging it in to AC still no joy. This morning now nothing seems to being it back. I know battery was at 50% just prior to shutting down. Two minutes later and cannot turn on again.
I am willing to try ther hard reset and reload of BOIS. Sure would like some confirmation that there is a BIO update that fixes a bug?
OTher wise I will return it tomorrow. This unit is brand new as of Friday. Sure do not appreciate having this type of issue on a brabd new unit.

I started this thread earlier in the year. I'd just like to add that as a direct result of this thread HP offered me a replacement based on this issue and a video problem my unit had. Rather than this I chose a full refund which they immediately accepted. I am now the proud owner of a new Macbook Air!
I will definitely consider purchasing another HP in the future as I've previously owned HP laptops I was very fond of, but not until they iron out the issues with the envy x2.

Has appeared to be better since hard reset and loading all new drivers, etc ( all updated suggested).
Still eats battery too fast when shutdown. Just reconfigured USB charing to be disabled and will watch that.

I have an HP Envy x 2. Not as I initially posted an HP Envy 15. However, I can see that this problem does not seem to be confined to the one model which makes it all the more infuriating. Almost from the beginning I have had intermittent problems with turning on my HP Envy with the power button. Now after altering the volume control I cannot turn it on at all. I am really sick of these types of problems with PC's. Either its software or hardware and the mug that has to pay every time is the consumer. This is an expensive piece of hardware and I have had nothing but trouble switching it on. Now it appears to have given up all together. I bought it to work with - not to play games and not being able to use it is costing me dear. I cannot get at files that I prepared yesterday while I was travelling on the train. If this were a car or if HP was a serious company they would not be giving us bits of stupid advice that several seemingly normal people are clearly incapable of following. They would be recalling these computers in order to put these obviously well know problem right. If I now need to send my computer to a specialist or back to HP then all my sensitive information goes along with it. As far as I am concerned this is just another of those scandals that has beset the PC computer industry since I bought my first one almost twenty years ago. I need help now not in two or three days or weeks or however long it takes for HP to sort themselves out.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE FOR ONCE.

This answer is absolute nonsense. Do you think that we are all so stupid as to sit and write to you before we have tried these things? As for removing the battery, why should we have to do this? Such proceedures should not be neccessary.
