Wifi connection

HP Recommended
HP Probook
Microsoft Windows XP (64-bit)

I'm trying to get a laptop running again that hasn't been used in probably 6 years.  I got everything going (even though it's slow as can be) but can't seem to get it to accept the wireless network in my house.  It recognizes the network, but won't connect.  When I try to connect, it initially populate a password that was probably used at one time.

It DOES connect if I hard wire it to the modem, but I want to connect wirelessly.

HELP!

Nevin Hofing

Hi

The WiFi network is 2.4 or 5.0 or Both Ghz?

I guess your adapter is 2.4 ghz but correct me if I'm wrong.

If you try a coupla commands, then we may get clues.

netsh lan show interfaces
netsh wlan show drivers
netsh wlan show interfaces

netsh wlan show profiles

@ECHO PLEASE NOTE any NETWORK-SSID name(s)
@ECHO that you want the PASSPHRASE(S) for.

Please type in the SSID
netsh wlan show profile name=%wkey% key=clear

The %wkey% should be a name from the command above, like

C:\>netsh wlan show profiles

Profiles on interface WiFi:

Group policy profiles (read only)
---------------------------------
    <None>

User profiles
-------------
    All User Profile     : AnnDroid
    All User Profile     : 3d6aymxq
    All User Profile     : EE-ghtg63
    All User Profile     : whiffyone
    All User Profile     : Chessbroadband

netsh wlan show profile name=%whiffyone% key=clear

 Have you changed the original password?

If in doubt please ask.
