Reduce the size of a exported OBJ file or STL file

Product Name: HP 3D scan 5
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Folks,

I want to reduce the file size of a OBJ or STL file that is exported from the David scanner. I know you can  reduce the file size on export by using the percentage reduction but you lose the detail of the scan.

I have tried meshmixer to reduce size but no real success.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Rick

Re: Reduce the size of a exported OBJ file or STL file

OBJ file also have a texture as information, so removing a texture will reduce a file size. That will probably be a tiny difference. both formats OBJ and STL are having a vertex coordinates so you can´t reduce a size while not changing geometry. Only way to do that is reverse engineering to CAD format.

Here you can check reducing process with Meshmixer: https://i.materialise.com/blog/reduce-the-file-size-of-stl-and-obj-3d-models/
