I opened my computer at work as per usual on a flat desk, after being carried around in a laptop bag with a sleeve on it. Laptop works perfectly, no previous issues or damage. I as open the screen, the right hinge burst, sending cracks and discoloration up the screen as well as shooting broken plastic and a screw across my desk. This is a common issue with HP Envy computers and I am aware of an ongoing lawsuit regarding this exact issue. What can HP do about it?

It is likely HP will fix it, just find a real person when you call.
