Keyboard problem - every character is a backclash

HP Recommended
EliteBook 840 G4

I have an EliteBook 840 G4 through work. It was working fine, but has suddenly changed so that every single thing you press on the keyboard inserts a backslash.

Even if I press delete or backspace, it will insert a backslash.

Any thoughts on what has happened and how to fix it!?

Thanks in advance

Can you boot in safe mode and confirm if it's same? Or if you can't boot in safe mode try use bootable USB with Linux for example.

Does it work at the login screen or is it always putting in backslashes? I would look at the registry if possible: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout and see if it was changed so that every key is a backslash. Also try an external keyboard. If both keyboards are always putting in backslashes then you can use the onscreen keyboard to do things.
