SSM - Client errors "Assuming Failure (Return code = 0x1)"

HP Recommended
HP Probook 440/450/470
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I came across SSM only recently, as we have just started to roll out Windows 10 via prebuilt images. To not overcomplicate things, we've done a 'golden image' without drivers from a VM. We deploy this to all new machines (HP Probook 4x0 and Prodesk 400) and then roll out drivers afterwards.

SSM seems the perfect tool for the job as far as I can tell. But I've done the necessary (getting driver libraries, configuring SSM share etc) but when I run SSM itself, it comes up with the same errors on every machine I've tried it on, that is...

In the System Software Manager Log File

  • Problem encountered when launching the install command. Command line was (cmd.exe /c "install.cmd") which returned (Assuming Failure (Return code = 0x1))

So it detecs possible updates, but never installs them, not a single result yet on the half dozen machines I've tried it on.

What am I doing wrong? I am logged in as a domain admin.

Thanks, Alan
