September MS Cumulative Update KB4457131 not installing on HP Laptops

HP Recommended
HP Elitebook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

We have a couple of hundred HP Elitebook 840 G4 notebooks on our corporate network that will not get the latest MS Cumulative update KB4457131.

We are using Windows 10 LTSB version 1607

Windows update doesn't find it and if we try to manually install it we get  "The update is not applicable to your computer."

It has installed fine on our Dell laptops and Lenovo Desktops which are the same build.

All our security scanning software reports the laptops as requiring the update.

We have tried:

Windows update repair.

SFC /scannow

Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder

DISM Restore Health commands

Resetting Windows update components

Anyone with the same issue or any ideas how to resolve it?

Hi,

Is this update kb4132216 installed in the PCs you are trying to update?

So the October Patch Tuesday has been and gone and KB4457131 has been superseded by KB4462917.

Oddly though KB4457131 will now install ok on  this model HP but the latest update won't with the same problem "The update is not applicable to your computer."

Anyone any ideas what might be happening here?

Another curious update.

As of this morning the update that was released a week after KB4457131 has started installing on the HP laptops.

This update is KB4457127

So it looks like for some reason Microsoft or HP are only allowing the updates to be installed about 4 weeks after their release. For this patern to continue I would expect KB4462917 to install around some time round the 2nd week of November.

Has anyone else noticed this at all or heard of it in any other circumstances or with other hardware vendors?
