HP Envy Phoenix 860 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I wanted to give this ray of hope if your Bang & Olufsen (B&O) driver isn't working on your Envy Phoenix 860 desktop after updates by Windows or HP Support Assistant.

The current driver listed for audio appears to be the working one if you follow these steps;

1. Download the driver file sp72442 [6.0.1.7571 Rev.A] which can be found on this page;

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-phoenix-860-000-desktop-pc-series/8499708/m...

The actual B&O Realtek driver can be downloaded directly from;

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72442.exe

Note: Be sure to save this in an easy to find location for later when you're going to need it.

2. You need to open the system Device Manager. Click the Start button (usually at the lower left of the screen) and begin typing Device .. after a few letters results with Device Manager (control panel) should appear at the top of the list. Click to open it.

3. Near the bottom of the list, click the little [+] button left of Sound, video and game controllers

and find the Realtek High Definition Audio listing.  Right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio and select Uninstall Device. In the small dialog window which opens, check the "Delete the driver software for this device" before you click the uninstall button. Then click the uninstall button.

4. After this is done, you can close the device manager window. Then locate and run the downloaded hp driver file, the sp72442.exe file. You can either double-click on it or right-click and select Open or Run as Administrator. You'll be asked to allow it to run since it does make changes to the system.  This starts the driver installer.

5. You're going to be clicking Next a few times to work the program through it's installation and finish at the close of the install. Additionally, it's probably going to ask you to Restart the computer. While sitting at this prompt close any other software you may have running so that it can do a clean restart without any conflicts or programs / apps needing to have work saved and closed.. you want this to go without a hitch so close and clear out anything other than these windows to let it complete the operation.

Note: Your volume is going to be at 50 when this starts happening and, if like me, that's really loud on your system.. pay attention to your volume controls to bring it down when you're able.  I actually use a startup sound in my sound profile and wow, was that a wake up when it rang out at 50% volume.  But, afterwards your Bang & Olufsen software should work again properly.  Make a note of that driver since future updates may cause you to have to repeat this process.  Also, if you use the HP Support Assistant, you're going to want to change settings so that it does Not install automatically and requires your confirmation of any updates so you can keep it from updating your sound drivers again.  You will have to be vigilant about Windows Updates wanting or just goin' ahead and upgrading your sound drivers too. Sorry but, I don't know any way around this fact so.. keep your info saved where you can find it again when  you need to get your B&O interface working again next time.

I really hope this helps someone to regain this audio functionality. Let us know. Hey, if it solves your dilemma too, mark it as a solution.  Have a great year.!
