Boot failure, error code 0xc0000428

550-150qe
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Desktop machine was working OK, but then booting failed: Windows boot manager

shows error code 0xc0000428 (no filename is shown in relation to the failure).

I gather that fixing this will require booting from some Windows recovery medium:

CD or USB stick, but I do not have such. Can HP please supply suitable media?

I should also say: running the HP diagnostics via the BIOS setup seems to show that

that the hard drive is physically OK; the problem seems to be confined to corruption

of the Windows filesystem in some way.

@cottrellnc, welcome to the forum.

Here is a thread from Microsoft's Forum that may help you:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-error-code-0xc00...

While you have a desktop and the one in the link is a laptop, I believe that the possible solution would be the same.  Your presumtion about using some type of media was correct.

Thanks. I didn't realize that Microsoft let you download a Windows 10 ISO image.

I'll try burning that onto a stick and take it from there.
