PC beeps several times before startup - help!

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion All in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since a recent Windows update, our PC will emit three low beeps, followed by four higher pitched quicker beeps. This pattern continues 4 or 5 times before it boots up. Once it has started, we don't really experience any problems, but having to go through this every time we turn it on is very irritating!

We have tried to look up the codes, but we don't get much information and nothing is clear about what we need to do to fix the issue. We've also tried going on the HP website and downloading any new updates/drivers. None of this has seemed to work so we've run out of ideas 😞

Is anyone able to shed any light on this?

Hi,

Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.

Did you make any modifications to your PC?

This is the info I get from HP support:

Model #: 23-q055na
Product #: N1Y01EA#ABU
Serial #: [removed]
Software Build #: 15WE2ARA604#SABU#DABU
Service ID #: 20150826
PCBRAND #: HP

The beep pattern repeats 5 times before the PC boots up, but we have no issues with anything once it has started up - we haven't made any modifications to it 😞

Hi,

Install and run the latest HP Diagnostics.  Do you get any detected errors?

@flagerbob

The error code indicates a power problem.  Unplug all USB devices and hubs. Only connect the original keyboard and mouse. Now retest.

If the error still occurs then I suggest that your external power supply or outlet power might be faulty. Other than that it could be a system board issue or an internal component that is taking an excessive amount of power during power up. If you get to this point then I suggest that you not disassemble the unit and attempt a trial and error approach on finding the faulty component but rather take the PC into a competent local PC repair shop or an authorized HP repair facility.

If by chance your PC is covered by warranty or an extended warranty then contact HP Support for further assistance.
