Run that hard-disk check again, if you think that doing so will address (not "solve") the problem.

How old is the disk-drive?

Remember that the manufacturer's warranty on the disk-drive probably was just ONE year.

You may need to replace the disk-drive.

If you do get it to boot into Windows, Google-search for "download free SPECCY".

Download, install, and run SPECCY.

Expand its "storage" section.

Expand the "SMART" section.

Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

SMART monitors the "health" of the disk-drive, at over 20 points.

Tell us what SMART reports.

Thanks for your reply.

System restored via recovery media. After that run the speccy, and 'smart 'saying good status.

It's good that the problem is gone.

Still, I would be suspicious about the overall "health" of the disk-drive, and would make weekly backups to an external disk-drive.

1. That is a symptom of "bad" sectors on a disk-drive in "imminent failure" status.

2. Another reason to replace the disk-drive.

3. Good idea.

4. I buy either Seagate or Western Digital.

From www.Seagate.com one can download SEATOOLS, which can do "disk-cloning" from "old" to a "new" Seagate drive.

From www.WD.com  one can download "Acronis True Image WD Edition Software which does "disk-cloning" from "old" to a new WD drive.

Using "disk-cloning" makes an exact copy (assuming no "bad" sectors) within an hour, and can automatically handle the situation where the target disk-drive has a larger capacity than the source disk-drive.
