Unable to get into setup menu to check fan status

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hi,

I’m receiving an error message that reads:

Error: cpu fan has failed
Pc will automatically shut down in a few seconds to prevent damage

The fan is spinning and not making a strange noise. I attempted to get into the setup menu by pressing F10 on restarting the machine. I get a message that setup is starting, but it just goes back to the error screen and shuts down.

Any ideas on how I can get into that setup menu?

Thanks

#1: the fan, which can be commanded to speed-up/slow-down by the motherboard, is not responding to those commands.

Replace the fan. Inexpensive.

#2: the motherboard is not responding correctly to "feedback" signals (about the current fan-speed) from the fan.  Replace the motherboard. Expensive!

Hi,

Most likely the problem is with the fan and you need to replace it. On some models it can be quite easy and others more complex. It is probably failing to enter BIOS to protect system from overheating. If you provide the exact model or product number of your PC we can help you with replacing the fan or at least give you an idea of how it is done and the cost involved. Here is link to HP support page showing how to find the model:
