camera not working during startup - no windows hello

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi I have an HP ENVY Curved All-in-One PC 34-b0xx and have a consistent issue. The computer has a camera that you can pop op out of the bezel of the screen and it used to work fine with startup and windows hello.

Currentlly this has no longer been working for a while. during logon the computer standard says

"something went wrong, please log in using your pin"

or

"camera could not be activated, pease log in using your pin"

I have tried the camera using other apps to see whether it wakes up at all which works fine.. it seems to be isolated to not being able to use the camera for windows hello which is an excellent feature. please help

Found this HP Forums thread that fixed this issue for others:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Fix-for-Windows-Hello-not-Work...

Hope it works for you.

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to help me!

I believe you have definitely helped me on the right track however I guess that driver is for a different HP computer and not my envy all in one. When I tried the solution from that post and tried to install that driver, my computer says, windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed and it kinda stops there.

When I go to device manager and then to category imaging devices, I see two devices

1) HP High definition 1MP webcam

2) HP IR camera

I tried this with the first one and the driver currently installed is called Realtek DMFT - RGB

Any idea what I should try next?

@WAWood,

I would really appreciate your help here. Stuck currently as I am not able to install the updated driver (see my other post). Do you see any other solutions?
