Omen 30L
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I tried to upgrade my new Omen 30L GT13-1380Z from existing 5600x to 5950X CPU, after BIO post, immediately received Fan Error 90B, the fan is spinning, but will shutdown by itself after few minutes.  if i switched back to the 5600X cpu, do not see the Fan error.  any idea?

Hi,

My guess would be, by looking at CPU upgrade options (Link) at the HP Store, the MB supports up to a 5900x.

Could be a cooling issue and/or you need a BIOS update which supports a 5950x.

Updating may not resolve this issue.
if you want to try at your own risk
there is this (check which version you have😞

thanks for replying.  i did go through the same BIO update last night and the issue still persisted.  i guess the MB simply can't support 5950x even though 5900x is supported :(.   i am hopeful that HP will release another BIOS update to support it.

Hi,

The 5950 can create heat.

I have a 3900x with a Kraken 280mm radiator (two 140mm fans) and two chassis fans in a Fractal Meshify 2 Compact which has very good airflow. I see low 80c temps when running CPU stress tests.

An Nvidia 2080 runs in the low 70c area when stress testing the graphics card

I don't know if the 30L case can handle a 5950 and a high TDP graphics card.

Hello
this is quite curious, because you have a message for the fan, and not the processor
In general if it is the processor, there is a series of beeps or processor error message!

Better not to insist, but hard to tell you, if an upcoming update will fix this
Instead, use a mentioned compatible processor

https://www.amd.com/fr/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-5900x

They are pretty close
or depending on your configuration, change something else
