3. so what should I do?

1. Try a different keyboard, in case one of the keys is not working.

2. OK.

3. On a computer with a CD-burner, Google-search for "Nordahl offline password".

This software creates a bootable CD.

Boot your computer from this media, and follow the on-screen prompts to "blank" the current password.

Remove the media.

Hold down the ON/OFF button until the computer turns off.

Restart.

At the login prompt for the password, press ENTER, to complete the login.

In Windows, set a new password.

Greetings JMorrow,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

The following comments are my interpretations of the HP password reset policy per the following link below.

HP password reset policy can be reviewed at this HP Forum link. Please review the, Reset a local user account password in Windows (all versions), for further details.

HP Support will recommend you use HP Recovery media to restore your PC to the factory settings when a user has forgotten the Windows Log on password.

Please note the official HP password recovery methods, as described in the above link, don't include using any other method to recover or change a Windows Log on password.

Regards
