There is a small wire coming from the DVD open/close switch. Where does this connect to inside? Can't open the dvd player when the front panel is installed

Can't see the back of the DVD device in the photos, but my guess is that is the audio connector -- and if you are getting audio out of the DVD (i.e., with music CD) then it is not needed.
IT would connect to an audio port on the motherboard but is not needed in modern PCs.
