Hello KrazyTode,

I’ve HP Pavilion 590-p0077c with Windows 10. I plan to add an SSD and use it as a boot drive, keep the existing HDD for data.

1. What type of SSD should I use? ie. M.2 (SATA III or NVMe), mSATA, 2.5 inches?

2. Also is there a SSD drive capacity limit (I.e. up to 250 GB by BIOS?)

Thank you and have. Good day.

your main system specs are here:

you can use a M.2/NGFF (2280) Single Sided SSD which is a SATA  (not nvme) interface on  this motherboard

compatable drives/ram can be found here: (both 3.5 and m.2)

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

The HP Desktop 590-p0070 supports the M.2 SSD and you should be able to use a 250 GB SSD Hard drive on this Desktop without issues

Thank you and have a lovely weekend 😊

I just received my computer and already I hit a problem. I bought a 2.5" SSD 256 GB card and there's No place to put it. Am I missing something? Everywhere I search for SSDs all I get are the black credit card-looking ones as a search result. I go to the YT video and I see one that looks like a rectangular circuit board. That's not what I have. Do I have the wrong equipment? Also, is this an either/or situation where I either use the SSD or the 1 TB standard hard drive? It's not a piggy back is it? I can't do both, can I?

Hello, and also... HELP!!!

I have the aforementioned computer, 590-p0700, and have major issues.  Looking over the specs I can't imagine this computer being so laggy.  I just so much as move my mouse and it freezes up momentarily. That's without any visual programs running.  When I use Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium to process, rarely any footage above 1080p, I get slow action. Audio won't sync when I'm trying to edit, making it impossible to know where to cut. While videos are finishing I can't use anything else, not even navigate a website, without severely spotty response from my mouse & keypad.  I still have my old, ancient computer that was a purchased rebuild (used) running Win 7 and it outperforms my new HP in many respects.

SO MY QUESTIONS ARE: What can I do to make this seemingly good-component-packed computer work faster and allow me to multi-task without many hang-ups? What is most likely the weak link here, and how can I modify it to fit my demands?

1. Should I mess with the SDRAM? It has a 4 & an 8 factory standard. How many slots are there? Will I be able to max this out at 32GB? I don't understand why it's written [S]DRAM.  S usually means Static, and D usually means Dynamic so how is it both?

2. Is it the 1TB mechanical hard drive the hang-up? Can I add an SSD to this HP? Can I do that and still keep the existing hard drive in there as well?  Does the motherboard only support M.2 style SSDs? Can I use the cartridge design SSD in this computer?

3. Is the OS the real problem here?  I have heard nothing but frustration from people whom say Win 10 is not software friendly.  Example: I use OBS software to record screen capture and I can't use some features like Window Capture.  I can only use display capture. I believe this is due to the OS. Would piggybacking Linux on this alleviate my stress, or just add to it?

Please help!  Anyone & Everyone, Please Help.  I am not experienced in doing computer mods.  I'm watching tutorials to learn, but have not physically changed components or upgraded a tower before. I'm determined to do so though. I want to make this HP tailor-fit for my needs.

I would hate to think I wasted $650 that I could have used to build my own custom video editing computer.  Thank You!
