@benluc , welcome to the Community.

The M.2 that came with the computer is SATA.  However, the socket is listed as "One M.2 socket 3, key M".  The key M can support SATA or PCIe x4.  This is NVMe.  Here is a M.2 that should work for you: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-1tb-980-pro/p/N82E16820147790?&quicklink=true

I like the Samsung SSD's because they seem to work best with the HP BIOS/UEFI.  Here is a guide to explain the sockets and keys for M.2: https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3

The best way to clone the current M.2 to the new M.2 is using a USB 3.0 adapter: https://www.newegg.com/p/0VN-00EH-00013?Description=m.2%20usb%20adapter&cm_re=m.2_usb%20adapter-_-0V...

You would install the Samsung Data Migration software on the current M.2 and run it.  It will ask for the Target drive and that will be the new M.2 in the USB adapter.  Once the drive is cloned to the new M.2, go into the BIOS/UEFI and set the boot order to the new M.2 and it should boot without any other changes.
