On start up I often get a message saying CPU Fan has failed and the machine turns itself off.

I then turn it on again and after 1 or 2 more goes it starts fine.

I thought it might be wise to change the CPU fan before it stops completely but I cannot find the details of the replacement part I need.

Hi:

I believe the fan is sold as part of the heatsink assembly.

The part number according to the above HP Parts surfer site is 5187-8413.

Since the part is no longer available from HP, you will have to do a general search by the part number on the internet.
