HP Envy

Posting in this forum as no other form seemed to be the appropriate place. Thinking of purchasing HP Envy desktop 750-229. Problem is I need to blow away windows 10 and install my Windows 7 OS from an image. Do to so I need the windows 7 drivers for this desktop. Does HP have these available for download?

You're very welcome, Russ.

You can probably use the chipset installation utility directly from Intel.  The 2nd driver on the list is the auto install file.

USB3:   Download, unzip and run the setup.exe file.

Hi:

It appears that HP has an incomplete set of W7 drivers for that PC.

Missing chipset, usb3, wireless to name a few.

They also show an AMD graphics driver, but the product specs indicate the PC comes with a nvidia graphics card.

You should be able to find any missing drivers you need from the hardware manufacturers' websites (Intel, Nvidia, etc).

Thank you for that Paul. It would be nice to have the chip-set drives for the Odense motherboard however. With that I could at least boot the PC after imaging with windows 7.

I downloaded the jpg of the motherboard shown here http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-750-200-Desktop-PC-series/9259609/model/10521676/documen...

However, the quality isn't good enough to read the part number off the board. If I had that with any luck I could probably find the Windows 7 chipset

Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

You're right. I think that is my best option. It will likely get the PC to boot after I install Windows 7.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers,

Russ

Why the "need" ?

Microsoft will stop issuing security-fixes for Windows 7 in January 2020, just over 3 years from now.

That's not too fary away.

Since it's a good bet that your computer's hardware will still be functional in January 2020, and meeting your needs, in 2020, you'll need to either:

* install Windows 10 now, onto a "spare" disk-drive, and then remove that disk-drive, label it, and store it until January 2020, and then reconnect it to your computer, to upgrade your computer, FOR FREE, to Windows 10;

* install Windows 10 now, and use an app on it, and an 8GB USB memory-stick,  to create "Windows Recovery" media.

Label that memory-stick, and store it until January 2020, and then use it to upgrade your computer, FOR FREE, to Windows 10.

* in January 2020, *PAY* (about $120 US) to purchase a license for Windows 10 (because you've "lost" either that disk-drive or that memory-stick).

My recommendation: install Windows 10 *NOW*, upgrade it to the "August 2016 Anniversary Update", review all the "privacy" settings to "lock" it down, and enjoy the benefits of 'Windows 10 -- SOONER, rather than LATER.

When not using your own computer, you'll encounter Windows 10 on other computers (friends? work location?).

So, it will be good for you to have some "home" experience with it.
