TouchSmart 520-1047c

Product Name: TouchSmart 520-1047c
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My hard drive is going bad (does not recognize hard drive on startup, did have a periodic clicking noise recently but that has gone away).


1.  Is there a way to confirm if its the hard drive or controller

2.  Will the recovery USB load the OS?  If so which one.  I upgraded to Windows 10.

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Please follow these instructions to test the hard drive: Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS | HP® Customer Support


Regarding the Recovery USB, unless you ordered one from HP specifically with Win10 on it, it will have the OS version that came preinstalled on your PC.


But, after you replace the drive and restore the PC, you can upgrade again to Win10 because this PC has already been registered with the MS Activation servers for Win 10.
