How do I transfer files from my old computer to my new Envy 795-0500

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have saved all the files from my old HP computer to a backup drive...Western
Digital "My Book".  Now, how do I transfer everthing to my new Envy 795-0500?  it's a lot of data. About half a TB. There is plenty of room on my new computer ... 2 TB.

And, how long will it take...both the backup drive and my new computer have 3.0 ports.

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Not knowing the details of HOW you saved the files, I can not possibly tell you how to get them back.

If you used a utility to save them, you'll have to use the same utility to restore them.

As to the time required, I just did a quick test with an external USB 3.0 drive and it took a little over a minute to transfer 10GB. But, that was to an SSD, so it averaged about 120MB/s.

Tranferring to a hard drive is going to be slower -- more likely 60-90 MB/s.  So, given your amount is about 100 times mine, with the speed reduction, it could take 3-4 hours to do the transfer -- or more.

But, this is presuming that you can just start it and let it run -- and that depends on what utility you have to use to restore the files.

If you used the WD Backup program, here is a step-by-step to recover files to a new PC.
