@cthadikonda,

Can you define what you meant by hard disk crashed?

Do you understand that Recovery removes all your data?

There is a factory installed Recovery partition on the drive, provided it's functional.

I initially had windows 7 when I bought my HP all in one desktop. Got an upgrade to windows 8 and then to windows 10. I don't understand why Microsoft pushes new versions for customers without properly testing them. I had a blue screen error with the windows 10 upgrade. Windows 10 on my PC used to crash even before I could take a backup. Tech guy from Microsoft tried to fix, did all experiments, looked like it got fixed. He couldn't wait till the windows upgrade was complete. He confidently said it was the issue with the display drivers and it would be resolved after the upgrade. It still kept crashing after a few minutes the system is booted. With the next upgrade the system got stable all by itself. One fine day the PC does not boot, it throws an error hard disk not found, 3F0, I can hear the click sound of the hard disk, which means the hard disk is dead. I checked with Microsoft for the operating system, they say contact your manufacturer. With the Product key I have on my PC, it did not work out. I was not given a CD or usb for a backup of my operating system.

I bought a new hard disk, how do I get the operating system. I do not want to spend extra money on getting the data from the dead hard disk. How do I get a copy of the operating system, so that I can use the product key I have on my PC to install on the new hard disk ? Hope this is clear.

@cthadikonda,

What I am about to say might seem calleous, but it is not.

1) No where in your inquiry did you actually give the exact model #, or product code for this unit.

2) When a WIN 7 unit is purchased, no disks are supplied.  It is up to the consumer to create the ONE TIME set of Recovery DVD's from within the "Create Recovery" program.

3) There are sites that offer the media. Unable to assist without #1.  (Cost $27). This media would be WIN 7. From that base OS, you let it install about 150-180 updates.  Then you will get an option to still download WIN 10.

4) A word of caution.  Do not use WI-FI during #3.  It's just too fragile and slower than Ethernet.

Thanks for your response brother. I have mentioned the model # and system I purchased from HP.

No worries, its HP Touchsmart All in one PC 610 series, 1280qd desktop.

I know no disks are supplied with the unit. At least they should allow to get it from either the HP or the Microsoft site, with the serial they provide.

I never expected that my hard disk would crash.

Thanks for your suggestion, i appreciate your time.

@cthadikonda,

Thank you for the complete model number, so here are the dvd's.

Be sure to purchase the same size (GB) hard drive.
