Unable to hook up a second monitor (does not detect). I know that the monitor and hdmi cable work fine on laptop.

The specs of your machine is

It does NOT have HDMI out port, only HDMI in port on the Left:
Therefore you can not use this port for a second monitor. You can use this port for a game console such as XBox, PS4. Your machine will work as a monitor.
If you wish to connect to an external monitor, you can use USB to HDMI adapter.
