When I just put in a DVD, nothing happened. Do I have to buy or download a DVD Player from somewhere?

I don't know what is your machine but I believe it has Cyberlink software and you can use this softare to play DVD's. You may have to use the software to open DVD the first time and next time it will know how.
Please try
(a) Hit Win key to open Menu,
(b) Scroll down to Cyberlink folder,
(c) Expand this folder and Open Media Player (or PowerDVD),
(d) Open DVD,
(e) Play.
