Computer keeps turning off

Just purchased a dv6-6036 note book. Compute keeps turning off intermittently, no warning no error messages. Can go 2 minutes, 2 hours before shutting down. I have reformatted hard drive to factory settings and installed the Norton package that comes with the notebook. All okay.

I have also increased the fan speeds to coolest setting.

What else can i try before taking it to a service centre?

Re: Computer keeps turning off

You might get a better response to this by posting it in the Notebook section, but there are a couple of things I could suggest to narrow it down. Does the shutdown happen when you are running on AC or the battery? What happens if you run it on AC without the battery installed? You can possibly narrow down some causes of the problem.

One other thing to keep in mind, changing the speed settings doesn't necessarily mean that the fans are working. The problem you describe could be a heat issue, so make sure that your fans are working.

Lastly, is there anything you are doing differently when the notebook shuts down? If it runs for two hours, is that at idle or heavy gaming? Same thing for two minutes? Does the activity level of the notebook dictate how long it will run before shutting down?
